The Nio Firefly is already available in some European countries such as Norway and the Netherlands. Why it's high time for the small electric car to come to Germany.
The Firefly has made waves since its introduction in China last year, but unfortunately the small electric car is still not available in Germany. A look at the vehicle during the IAA convinced us of the potential of the small car.
With a playful design and an attractive price, the small e-car has already been launched in some European countries such as the Netherlands or Norway and shows a glimpse of what electric mobility in the city can look like at a fair price.

Playful design with clever interior
In contrast to the more stately designed models of the main brand Nio, the Firefly is a ray of playfulness with bright colors. This is ensured not only by eye-catching front and rear lights with memorable designs, but also by the color selection of the small car that wants to attract attention. The six paint finishes not only have the typical black, white and grey tones, but also a pleasant lavender purple or bright light green. In addition to the typically inconspicuous colors, there are also variants with green or red interiors in the interior.

But the Nio Firefly doesn't just surprise positively in terms of looks, the space is also surprisingly good. Despite its small dimensions (4,003 mm x 1,781 mm x 1,557 mm), the Firefly feels larger than comparable models such as the Renault 5 E-Tech. The interior also offers space for all kinds of little things. This is ensured not only by numerous storage spaces in the interior, but also by completely new compartments under the passenger seat and under the rear bench that provide more space. With a simple jerk, the seat surfaces can be lifted up to free up space underneath for other items. There are a total of 27 storage spaces in the interior, which can definitely compete with "Simply Clever" from Skoda, in any case they offer more than enough space for a small car.

More news about the Nio Firefly
In addition to these gimmicks, there is also a surprising amount of space in the trunk (404 liters expandable to 1,253 liters with the rear seats folded down) and a frunk with 92 additional liters.
Fair price with good standard equipment
Despite its small car character, the workmanship of the Nio Firefly is good. Of course, a Firefly does not offer the all-encompassing comfort and high-quality materials as in a Nio ET9, but for this vehicle class, the small electric car is strong on the road.

Amenities such as adaptive cruise control, a navigation system with intelligent route planning, automatic climate control and heated front seats are already part of the standard equipment, and premium options such as massage seats, seat ventilation or a panoramic roof are also available for an extra charge. All this at a price that starts at € 29,990 in the Netherlands is already a fair offer.
5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety test
Although the Nio Firefly is a really strong offering in the small car segment, it also has its weaknesses. First of all, of course, the comparatively small range of "only" 330 km according to WLTP should be mentioned. The 42.1 kWh battery also only charges at up to 100 kW and therefore takes just under 29 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. But for a small car, these are still solid values that point in the right direction. Of course, the typical small car limitations are also in play, so there is enough space for 5 people, but for long distances not many people are likely to volunteer for the rear seat. But if you're mainly in the city and only occasionally go on a longer trip, you'll be fine with it anyway. However, it is still uncertain whether the playful look will be well received in Germany, in addition to the general reluctance of German customers towards Chinese brands.

When will the Nio Firefly finally come to Germany?
This brings us to the big question of when the small electric car will finally be allowed to celebrate its German market launch. Unfortunately, there is still no concrete data on this. Those responsible at Nio emphasize that they would prefer to start in 2025, but cannot announce a certain date. So unfortunately we can only wait and see. However, patience should pay off as long as the Firefly takes off in Germany at similar prices and features, we can hardly wait.
